Scenes from the first few days of sailing from Fij

Scenes from the first few days of sailing from Fiji to Vanuatu. Wind was in the mid 20s at a 60 degree angle. The swell was 10-15 feet coming from the southwest, which was the direction I was traveling. I drank so many waves, I’m surprised flying fish didn’t fall out of my mouth. My top speed during this time was 9 knots. My average was in the high 5s. The clouds were black-blue, the air was refrigerator cold, but there were rainbows.

Hey babe, I made it to Vanuatu. I’ve officially now spent 53 nights alone at sea. My first time alone in the ocean at night was on my solo crossing to Hawaii. That crossing took 23.5 days. I’d never been alone for that long in my life & prior to that crossing I had only sailed solo for 6 hours! I lost myself and found myself on that voyage and in the end there was transcendence. I’m just a gal from landlocked Arkansas & I hardly knew the ocean before & if I can do this, you can do this. You’ll never know what your capable of if you’re too faint-hearted to try. 🌈 Offshore photos from The Vanuatu voyage to follow.

This is my life at 8:30 AM. Spinnaker flying! All you need is 8-10 knots of wind and 3 adventurous friends. They recommend doing on a boat no less than 40 ft., but my 34 ft. made for the perfect carousel ride.

Hey Honeysuckle, I’m sailing around in my pajama

Hey Honeysuckle, I’m sailing around in my pajamas they have mushrooms on them and say “life’s a trip.” My life is one long trip. I’m about to set sail again from Fiji to Vanuatu. Just waiting on a weather window. Follow me, this is how I write when I’m high on the sea. 🍄 “The seas effects on me are greatest when I’m alone. I imagine it’s because I am in a more heightened state and can more prominently feel that energy that pulses through everything. That energy that is neither fixed nor permanent. That energy that holds in its realms the possibility of both creation and destruction. That energy that exists beyond time, molds all that we see, and drinks our prayers.

It’s a pure power that can get so easily muddled on this planet of people.

And each time I set sail I feel a deep trepidation. Like I’m trespassing into the secrets of the sea and if I am not careful, I will get caught and the wind and the waves will swallow me in a rush of screams.

Then the sea will spit out my skeleton on some desolate shore without even the blessing of a flower or a shell in my honor. And nobody will cry, because nobody will know, except for the sea which is too wild and rambunctious in its wanderings to care.

Things that are wild don’t care that bones are sacred. That bones disintegrate in sunlight and should only be excavated under the night. That bones hold the power of life.”

The first wild thing I fell in love with was a hor

The first wild thing I fell in love with was a horse. When I’m galloping on one I get the same free-flow-dragonfly feeling that I get when I’m sailing in the middle of the ocean. I met a man once who sailed around the world with a motorcycle strapped to the stern of his boat. He even rounded Cape Horn with it. If only I could strap a horse on the back of mine.
